John Bakalar - Head Varsity Coach

John Bakalar was named Head Varsity Baseball Coach at Crestwood High School in October 2010. He previously served as the Head Freshman Coach for 2 seasons, compiling a 21-17 overall record including a 15-4 record in the Portage Trail Conference. 

Prior to coaching at Crestwood he was an Assistant Coach at Lakewood (2009) and Cuyahoga Falls (2008), with both teams winning Sectional Championships and advancing to the District Tournament. 

In his 9 seasons as Head Coach has five 15+ win seasons, had 13 players continue to play at the college level, 1 player earn All-American recognition, 1 played named Greater Cleveland's Mike Garcia Award, coached 6 All-Ohio players, had the 1st Academic All-Ohio player in program history and has coached a total of 10 in addition to 38 Scholar-Athletes. In 2018 the team won their first Sectional Championship since 2008 and just 9th in the 58 seasons in the program history while advancing to the District Championship for just the 4th time ever and first since 1995. 2018 also saw Crestwood have their best start in school history (10-0) and highest ranking in school history (#2). In 2019 Crestwood repeated as Sectional Champions, marking the first time since 1994-1995 that the team won back-to-back Sectional Championships.

He has coached in Greater Cleveland Baseball Coaches All-Star Game (2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2018 and 2019), the Northeast Ohio Baseball Coaches All-Star Game at Progressive Field (2011, 2012 and 2013) and 2019 at Canal Park. In 2016 was voted by his peers to coach the Northeast Team in the Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association Mizuno All-Ohio Series All-Star Game at Ohio State University.

Coach Bakalar also actively involved in the coaching associations. Currently serves Commissioner on the Mantua Shalersville Youth Baseball League Board, is a Board Member on the Greater Cleveland Baseball Coaches Association and Northeast Ohio Baseball Coaches Assoication and is the current Secretary of the Northeast Ohio Baseball Coaches Association Executive Board after serving as Vice-President in 2014 and President 2016 and 2017. He also is on their Hall of Fame Committee as well and is one of the Poll Voters for the State of Ohio since 2014. In 2017 was elected as the Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association Vice-President and was responsible for cordinating the 2018 Mizuno All-Ohio Series at Ohio State, 2019 Vendor Exhibit and 2020 State Clinic.

Alan Krontz - Varsity Assistant

Coach Krontz has been the Varsity Assistant since 2011, with his primary responsibilities are working with the hitters and outfielders. Krontz spent 1 season as a Volunteer Assistant at Mount Union (2010) prior to coming to Crestwood. Coach Krontz was a two year letterman as an Outfielder at Mount Union, and prior to that played two seasons at Washington and Jefferson College (PA). Krontz graduated from Mount Union in '09 with a degree in English 7-12 and Education and was an All-Conference Outfielder at Field HS '05. 

At Crestwood he has developed hitters that have scored the 3rd most runs in school history (216 in 2015), set the team record singles in a season (232 in 2015), most doubles in a season (53 in 2012), set the stolen base record 130 in 2018) and 7 seasons with a team average over .300 (2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018). Coach Krontz also served as Assistant Coach in the Northeast Ohio Baseball Coaches All-Star Game at Progressive Field (2011, 2012 and 2013). In 2018 he was recognized as the Northeast Ohio Baseball Coaches Association (NEOBCA) DIII District Assistant Coach of the Year after helping lead Crestwood to just its 9th Sectional Championship and fourth ever District Championship appearance.

Coach Krontz still is active as a Player/Coach for a summer baseball team in the Akron AA League and the Ohio Men's Senior Baseball league out of Canton. Currently Coach Krontz is an English Teacher at Summit Academy.

John Izquierdo - Varsity Assistant

Coach Izquierdo has served as an Assistant beginning in the 2018 season, primarily serving as the team's bench coach, infield and pitching coach. In 2018 he was instrumental in helping lead Crestwood to just its 9th ever Sectional Championship and fourth ever District Championship appearance.

Prior to coaching at Crestwood, he has served as a Hitting/Pitching Instructor and travel baseball coach for E80 Iron Pigs. As a player he attended John Bowne High School in Queens, NY and was on two PSAL Championship teams. He then went on to play collegiately at Cuyahoga Community College (2016) and Tabor College (2017) in Kansas.
